Although it may seem like Facebook has already solidified their dominance when it comes to social marketing and advertising, their most recent announcement demonstrates how they plan to continue their reign and provide a means for advertising dominance. Even in the world of social media, individuals and companies alike still rely on TV and commercial advertising as their number 1 means of digital marketing and advertising. In an attempt to topple the reign of TV commercial success, Facebook has announced the introduction of Facebook commercials!
The commercials, which could cost brands up to $2.5 million, are predicted to last 15 seconds and can appear on a targeted individual’s wall anywhere from 1 to 3 times a day! This new platform sounds tremendously appealing and beneficial to the brands themselves, BUT how are consumers going to feel about this new platform?
The commercials are targeted based on age and gender alone, so how many commercials will you have to view everyday? With the inability to “unfollow” or “unlike” the platform seems to be a bit to invasive for my liking. However, we can not deny the benefits this form of advertising will provide for brands and companies alike.
With Facebook’s tremendous user base companies will have access to individuals who are likely to check their Facebook accounts at least once a day, during both prime time hours and regular hours. The versatility and wide-spread availability of Facebook makes the platform undeniably powerful in the world of marketing and advertising.
